In Tony Kushner's A BRIGHT ROOM CALLED DAY, a group of artists and intellectuals in 1932 Berlin quarrel and sedate themselves to escape the social and political anxiety during the rise of the Third Reich. BRIGHT ROOM, originally written to critique the Reagan Administration, adapts to meet each new challenge to democracy and continues to pose the important question, "What would you have done during the rise of Adolf Hitler? Would you have been complicit?"
